How we teach History
Cambridge A Level History (9489) is built on argument and evidence — students do not just learn what happened across the turbulent twentieth century, they learn to explain why, and to defend that explanation from sources. Our teaching develops both the knowledge and the historical reasoning the course rewards.
The content sweeps from the origins of the First World War through the rise of authoritarian regimes and the Second World War into the Cold War and decolonisation, building a connected picture of the modern era. Across AS and A2 the papers reward analytical argument, source evaluation and balanced judgement, so we practise marshalling evidence into clear, well-supported essays rather than narrative retellings.
Classes are live and small, with detailed feedback on argument, use of evidence and essay structure.
