Sociology is the study of how people interact in groups. A level Sociology examines social behavior from a variety of perspectives, and how it originates and then develops. The course also explores the ways people are organized into groups according to distinctions such as class, gender, and race. You will also be asked to understand the concepts of culture and identity. This will include the different conceptions of culture, the self, identity, and the relationship of identity to age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, etc. The course will also challenge you to understand how the media can impact society including representation, the presentation of news, and biases. You’ll explore the links between health, poverty, crime, and welfare. This will include the distribution of wealth, the persistence of poverty, and unequal social distribution. Your studies will be underpinned by sociological theory and methodologies. When you have completed this. At a Level, you will have developed sociological awareness through active engagement with the contemporary social world.
